This piece is about using adversity to better one’s life. Though many times, we might find ourselves running from it, for fear of the pain it will cause.
If you know about phoenix birds, in some legends it is said that at the end their life cycle, they perish and are then reborn again from their own ashes. From the depths of their own decomposition, they come alive. From total destruction, comes creation. Here are creatures totally at peace with the harsh reality of living. They embrace the possibility of their own downfall, so much so that they are said to even build their own funeral pyres in which to perish. And from their death, comes something renewed, and wise and beautiful. Thinking of the phoenix in my own life, I try to remember that if failure, or pain do occur, from it I can arise stronger, perhaps with new ideas for my future endeavors. The phoenix bird has to do something difficult to achieve something excellent, and I think we can learn from this when we take risks to move forward in our own lives.
