Where do we go when we feel unsettled, even in our places of living?
I’ve been exploring topics of instability in recent works as I prepare for a big life change that seems to be ever shifting, never allowing me to fully settle into a plan. These feelings of disquiet and the sensation of being in a constant liminal state have reminded me how important it is to create a place of security inside the mind and body. Mindsets and thought patterns we can return to when we feel lost in our surroundings. Be it through ritual, therapy, exercise, and pleasure, I feel there’s a true balance and discipline to self care that’s often overlooked as luxury and laziness. But how can we expect to be functional beings if we remain in a constant state of unease even within ourselves?
I hope this piece serves as a reminder for you to build your own home within so that the next time it feels like a hurricane is pulling the foundations up from beneath you, you have a place to return to and find balance once more.
